AdrienneTrimble, President & Chief Executive Officer , National Minority Supplier Development Council Leon C. Richardson, Founder, Chief Executive Officer, Santana Group |
Pivoting Successfully during the Pandemic Here’s a startling statistic: Minority-owned businesses have experienced nearly a 40% drop in business during the pandemic. Learn how two minority-owned businesses are overcoming the challenges of the pandemic and how the National Minority Supplier Development Council has helped them survive. Leon Richardson’s company, Chemico, had to move from making 500 units a day of hand sanitizer to 5 million a day. Rosa Santana’s company had to learn how to nimbly adjust and move Human Resources across companies as organizational demands have changed. They transitioned organizations seamlessly to work-from-home, with one company going from 0% to 70%. Its other priorities were implementing policies that ensure team member safety and minimal to no service interruptions to their customers |
Lisa Yerian, MD, and Chief Improvement Officer, Cleveland Clinic John Shook, LEI Senior Advisor and Author |
JIDOKA 2020: Lessons in Enabling Structures from Cleveland Clinic and Toyota Over the last 7 years, the Cleveland Clinic team has worked hard to build a “culture of improvement” based on building capability through improved systems and behaviors. Then in 2020, COVID19 hit. Chief Improvement Officer Dr. Lisa Yerian, like so many of us, had never faced anything like this before. Unsure about what to do, Lisa remembered the story of Doug Friesen and Toyota from an influential 1992 Harvard Business School case study. Lisa wasn’t building cars (and the crisis her team faced wasn’t a production quality problem), but Lisa saw deep similarities. And key differences. Watch Dr. Lisa Yerian and LEI Senior Advisor and Lean Global Network Chairman John Shook in a previously recorded learning session and discussion on what makes for an effective lean management system. Be prepared to read and reflect on the case that inspired Lisa and reflect on your own team’s problems to learn what they may reveal about your lean management system any day, or in a crisis. In addition to describing Cleveland Clinic’s work at the W.O. Walker testing facility during COVID19, Lisa and John will explain how Cleveland Clinic has engaged over 20,000 employees using the Cleveland Clinic Improvement Model, in part by creating a system of tiered daily huddles to promote teamwork and safety (embracing problems), build operational awareness, and support caregivers. This session will include time for smaller breakout groups as well as Q&A |
Kiame Mahaniah, MD and CEO, Lynn Community Health Center Kimberly Eng, COO, Lynn Community Health Center |
Lean and COVID: 150
days to a new reality Learn how Lynn Community Health Center created hundreds of new workflows and standards as a strategy for rapidly gaining stability in the midst of a pandemic. LCHC is in Lynn, MA, a blue-collar city north of Boston, ranked by the state as a center of coronavirus in Massachusetts. In this session, you will hear from the CEO and COO about their 150 days of COVID response. In a crisis of this magnitude, with very little known, and resources are even more scant than usual, there is no playbook to follow while a very public scrutiny of your performance occurs in real time. How does lean thinking help? |
